Overview

  • Feige told reporters Marvel halted Blade because it “didn’t feel confident” in the existing scripts and refused to proceed without an exceptional screenplay.
  • The reboot has gone through four major iterations—including two period and two contemporary drafts—with early versions by Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green.
  • Eric Pearson, fresh from Fantastic Four, is currently drafting the modern-day screenplay under the mandate to only move forward with an “insanely great” script.
  • Mahershala Ali remains firmly attached to star as the half-human vampire hunter, underscoring Marvel’s commitment to get the tone and story right.
  • After the departures of Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, the film has no director attached and will not resume until the script meets Marvel Studios’ rigorous standards.
