Maruti Suzuki Commissions 300 kW Green Hydrogen Pilot at Manesar

The pilot will convert surplus on-site solar into stored hydrogen to cut factory carbon intensity and guide wider deployment.

Overview

  • Maruti Suzuki commissioned a 300 kW green-hydrogen electrolyser at its Manesar manufacturing plant, a pilot announced on Sept. 24, 2026 that will use surplus solar power and store the produced hydrogen for later use in factory processes.
  • The company says it will evaluate the pilot’s technical and operational results before scaling green-hydrogen systems across its Haryana and Gujarat facilities and plans to blend produced hydrogen with natural gas for process fuel.
  • The electrolyser sits alongside other clean-energy moves: a 1 MWh battery energy storage system has been commissioned at Kharkhoda, a 10 tonnes-per-day biogas plant is planned for FY2026-27, and the board has approved four compressed-biogas projects with a ₹561 crore allocation.
  • Maruti links these measures to a manufacturing emissions goal to cut carbon from about 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY2030-31 and says lower CO2 intensity will affect India’s manufacturing competitiveness.
  • By running electrolysis on otherwise unused holiday solar output and storing hydrogen, the pilot aims to raise renewable utilisation, smooth factory fuel supply, and provide operational lessons that could shape corporate rollout and support the government’s Green Hydrogen Mission.
