Overview
- British sculptor Martin Jennings has been appointed to create the statue for the national memorial at Marlborough Gate in St James’s Park, known as Queen Elizabeth II Place.
- The appointment was made by Foster + Partners in consultation with the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, with public support from committee chair Robin Janvrin and architect Norman Foster.
- Jennings will collaborate with the Foster + Partners team to develop final design proposals that will be submitted to the King and the Prime Minister next year.
- The wider scheme proposes a new translucent unity bridge, a Prince Philip Gate featuring a statue of the Duke of Edinburgh, and a linked “family of gardens.”
- The project carries a provisional construction budget of £23 million to £46 million excluding VAT, with the memorial expected to be unveiled in 2026.
