Markus Zwick Appointed New Chair of Rheinland-Pfalz Städtetag

Markus Zwick, the Mayor of Pirmasens, has been elected as the new chair of the Städtetag Rheinland-Pfalz, succeeding Koblenz Mayor David Langner.
The Städtetag represents the interests of 33 cities, including 12 independent and 21 district-affiliated cities in Rheinland-Pfalz.
In his inaugural speech, Zwick highlighted the financial and logistical challenges faced by municipalities, including rising costs and the need for more housing.
Zwick urged the state government to provide more financial flexibility to municipalities, proposing a reduction in bureaucracy as one solution.
He emphasized the need for constructive collaboration with the new Minister-President Alexander Schweitzer, noting previous difficulties in getting municipal proposals heard at the state level.
