His representatives said he died in Nashville after a brief, unexpected illness.

Overview

  • His death was confirmed Sept. 5 by his lawyer, Evan Cohen, with additional details provided by his representative.
  • As a founding member, he helped drive the Turtles’ 1960s success, including the No. 1 hit “Happy Together” and multiple other Top 10 singles.
  • Performing with Howard Kaylan as Flo & Eddie, he toured with Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention and contributed backing vocals to hits by T. Rex and Bruce Springsteen.
  • He was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2020, disclosed the diagnosis in 2023, and continued on the Happy Together tours through summer 2025.
