Marini Sets FP1 Pace at Mandalika as Marquez Returns as Champion

Honda signaled early pace with Luca Marini topping FP1 on a hot, slippery Mandalika track.

Overview

  • Marc Marquez, fresh from sealing his seventh premier-class title at Motegi, said the emotions give him an extra boost but warned he must avoid a post-title hangover and focus on consistency.
  • FP1 times: Luca Marini led with a 1:30.809, followed by Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi, with Alex Rins fourth and Marquez fifth after leading much of the session.
  • Michelin confirmed a slight change to the medium front tyre, and many riders ran non-preferred compounds for the dusty opening session.
  • Track conditions were tricky with several scares and one notable fall for Fermin Aldeguer at Turn 8, with the rider unhurt.
  • The runner-up race continues with Alex Marquez 66 points clear of Francesco Bagnaia, who was 17th in FP1 on old rubber, as Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura remain sidelined through injury.
