Marines Field First MADIS Units to 1st LAAD as Full-Rate Production Ramps Up

Marine leaders plan rapid distribution across low-altitude and littoral anti-air battalions.

Overview

  • On Dec. 12, two MADIS systems were delivered to 1st Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, marking the first operational fielding.
  • The system uses two JLTVs with split roles for detection and offensive action to defeat drones as well as fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft while moving or halted.
  • The full-rate configuration integrates a 30mm cannon, Stinger missiles, 360-degree sensors and multifunction electronic warfare for kinetic and non-kinetic engagements.
  • Program officials say automatic target recognition and weapon assignment shorten engagement times and reduce operator workload.
  • Manufactured by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, MADIS entered full-rate production after trials and live-fire events at Balikatan and Twentynine Palms.
