Mariners Eye Rocco Baldelli for Open Manager Job

Overview

• Multiple outlets report the Mariners are interested in Rocco Baldelli but have not made a hire and the search remains active.
• Seattle has been granted permission to interview former Astros manager Joe Espada and is also evaluating other experienced candidates such as Brandon Hyde and David Ross.
• Baldelli managed the Minnesota Twins to a 527-505 record with three AL Central titles and won AL Manager of the Year in 2019.
• Baldelli left the Twins after a 70-92 season that included midseason payroll cuts and joined the Dodgers' front office last December, which makes him more available now that Los Angeles' season has ended.
• The next steps are formal interviews and negotiations that will test whether the Mariners will prioritize proven managerial experience and how a new hire could shape the club's approach for the 2027 season.
