Marine Corps Sets 210-Point, Sex-Neutral Fitness Standard for Combat Arms

The shift aligns standards with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s call for stricter, combat-focused fitness requirements.

Overview

  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, Marines in combat arms MOSs must score at least 210 on the PFT using the male, age-normed scale.
  • Marines in non-combat specialties will continue to take the PFT under existing sex- and age-normed standards.
  • Marines in combat arms who do not reach 210 by the end of the reporting period will enter remedial training and may face PMOS reclassification or promotion restrictions.
  • The Corps will replace height/weight and tape measurements with a waist-to-height ratio for body composition once higher-level guidance arrives, with current methods and bioelectrical impedance used in the interim.
  • Manpower Information Systems updates will roll out over six to eight months with full implementation expected within a year, and units must follow interim administrative guidance until then.
