Marina Tabassum to Design 2025 Serpentine Pavilion for 25th Anniversary

The Bangladeshi architect's 'A Capsule in Time' explores themes of temporality, community, and sustainability in a timber structure set to debut in June.

Marina Tabassum, known for her climate-conscious architecture, has been selected to design the 2025 Serpentine Pavilion in London’s Kensington Gardens.
Her design, titled 'A Capsule in Time,' features four wooden capsules with translucent facades and a kinetic element that allows part of the structure to move.
The pavilion reflects the transience of architecture, drawing inspiration from the shifting homes of the Bengal Delta and traditional South Asian canopies called shamianas.
Set to open on June 6, 2025, the pavilion will serve as a platform for diverse community events and discussions during its five-month installation.
This marks the 25th anniversary of the Serpentine Pavilion series, which began in 2000, and highlights Tabassum’s growing international recognition for her innovative work.
