Marina Tabassum to Design 2025 Serpentine Pavilion for 25th Anniversary
The Bangladeshi architect's 'A Capsule in Time' explores themes of temporality, community, and sustainability in a timber structure set to debut in June.
- Marina Tabassum, known for her climate-conscious architecture, has been selected to design the 2025 Serpentine Pavilion in London’s Kensington Gardens.
- Her design, titled 'A Capsule in Time,' features four wooden capsules with translucent facades and a kinetic element that allows part of the structure to move.
- The pavilion reflects the transience of architecture, drawing inspiration from the shifting homes of the Bengal Delta and traditional South Asian canopies called shamianas.
- Set to open on June 6, 2025, the pavilion will serve as a platform for diverse community events and discussions during its five-month installation.
- This marks the 25th anniversary of the Serpentine Pavilion series, which began in 2000, and highlights Tabassum’s growing international recognition for her innovative work.
