Overview

  • On July 21, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a military-style grenade caused the blast that killed Detectives Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus and William Osborn at the Biscailuz Training Academy.
  • Investigators executed search warrants Monday at the 13900 block of Marquesas Way in Marina del Rey, including on a boat, after serving a similar warrant in Santa Monica three days earlier.
  • The ATF’s National Response Team has joined LASD homicide detectives and the LAPD to conduct forensic reconstruction and trace the devices’ origins.
  • The three detectives had more than 70 years of combined bomb-disposal experience and were part of the department’s Arson and Explosives Detail.
  • Authorities expect the investigation to span weeks or months as they review how the grenades were discovered, transported and handled.
