Overview

  • Groundbreaking on July 15, 2025, officiated by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, marked the start of the US$8 billion IR2 expansion at Marina Bay Sands
  • Designed by Safdie Architects, the project’s new 55-storey tower will house 570 larger all-suite rooms and carry its own identity separate from the existing complex
  • Key additions include a 76,000 sq ft Skyloop rooftop with public observatory and private cabanas, a 15,000-seat entertainment arena, 200,000 sq ft of meeting space, plus gaming, retail and wellness zones
  • Costs have risen from the initial US$3.3 billion in 2019 to US$8 billion due to inflation, pandemic delays and higher labour and material expenses
  • Sustainability is central, with plans for low-carbon concrete, recycled steel and a waste management programme, aiming for completion by June 2030 and opening in early 2031 pending approvals
