Marin County Identifies Man Found in Muir Woods After 42 Years

DNA technology and genealogical research lead to the identification of Swedish immigrant Sigvard Svensson, whose remains were discovered in 1982.

The remains were found near Deer Park Fire Road in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Sigvard Svensson, born in 1908, immigrated to the United States in 1926.
Investigators entered the case into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System in 2018.
Othram Forensics developed a DNA profile that led to Svensson's identification.
No foul play is suspected in Svensson's death, which remains undetermined due to skeletal remains.
