Marin County Fair Opens 100th Edition With Insect-Themed ‘Bug-Tastic’ Showcase

Hands-on origami workshops bring the core motif to life in the Exhibit Hall

Overview

  • The five-day centennial fair runs through Sunday, July 6, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the San Rafael fairgrounds with classic carnival rides including a giant ferris wheel.
  • The Marin Cultural Association–sponsored Community Stage hosts local dance troupes, bands and poetry readings by Marin’s poet laureate.
  • A new MCA Art Studio in the Exhibit Hall leads visitors through hands-on origami making alongside the “Origami Bug Out” display of paper insects.
  • The Butterfly Encounter exhibit lets guests feed live butterflies which are released into the wild at day’s end.
  • Nightly fireworks over the lagoon begin at 9:30 p.m., capping off each evening of the celebration.
