Marienbrücke Nightly Closures Set for Oct. 6–17 for Temporary Water Main and 110 kV Cable Works

The works safeguard Neustadt’s drinking water after the Carolabrücke loss.

Overview

  • SachsenEnergie will install a provisional drinking-water pipeline through the bridge to maintain supply until the new Carolabrücke is built.
  • The inbound carriageway will be fully closed nightly from 19:00 to 05:00, with motorists from Neustadt diverted via the Albertbrücke along a signed route.
  • Pedestrian and cycle access inbound will be restricted during the works and fully closed on the weekend, with bike detours signposted via the Augustusbrücke.
  • Crews will simultaneously lay cables for a new 110-kilovolt section linking the Räcknitz and Klotzsche substations as part of a 14-kilometre upgrade for rising demand.
  • The temporary main is needed because two remaining lines have been compensating since the collapse and one must be taken offline for renovation in summer 2026; some work will be open-trench.
