Mariannette Miller-Meeks Narrowly Wins Iowa's 1st Congressional District After Recount

The Republican incumbent defeated Democrat Christina Bohannan by less than 1,000 votes, solidifying GOP control of Iowa's congressional delegation.

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks retained her seat in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Christina Bohannan by a margin of 0.2 percentage points, or nearly 800 votes.
The victory came after a recount was requested by Bohannan due to the close race, with the Associated Press officially calling the race on Wednesday afternoon.
This win helps Republicans maintain their slim majority in the U.S. House, with the GOP now holding all four of Iowa's congressional seats for the second consecutive cycle.
Miller-Meeks, who first won her seat in 2020 by just six votes, campaigned on conservative policies and received endorsements from prominent Republican figures, including House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Bohannan, a law professor and former state legislator, focused her campaign on education, abortion rights, and immigration reform but fell short in a district that has shifted Republican in recent years.
