Maria Badstue Conducts Sixth Indian Concert at Mumbai’s NCPA

Adopted from Maharashtra as an infant, raised in Denmark, now back at Mumbai’s NCPA, Badstue showcased Scandinavian works ahead of an August symphony project in Bengaluru.

Overview

  • Born in Maharashtra’s Pandharpur and adopted at five months, Badstue grew up in Denmark before pursuing conducting.
  • On June 27 she led the Symphony Chamber Orchestra alongside musicians from the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg and the Royal Danish Academy of Music at the National Centre for Performing Arts.
  • Her career highlights include working with maestro Zubin Mehta, mentorship under Jorma Panula and founding the Nordic Masterclass for Conductors.
  • Badstue has described India as a second home and emphasises the need for regular Western classical music education and teaching in the country.
  • She is slated to conduct the South Asian Symphony Orchestra and collaborate on a Bollywood song project in Bengaluru this August.
