Overview

  • Attorney General Pamela Bondi appointed Heap effective August 18 and she was sworn in by U.S. District Judge J. Randal Hall at the Augusta federal courthouse.
  • As interim U.S. Attorney, Heap leads roughly 70 prosecutors and staff handling federal criminal prosecutions and civil defenses across the district.
  • The Southern District of Georgia spans 43 counties—including Savannah, Augusta and Brunswick—and serves more than 1.6 million residents.
  • Heap brings over three decades of experience as an assistant district attorney and two-term Eastern Judicial Circuit district attorney, earning 2019 District Attorney of the Year honors.
  • Upon taking office, she pledged to partner with local law enforcement agencies to bolster community safety.
