Mardi Gras 2025 Wraps with Adjustments for Weather, Celebrations Persist

New Orleans' iconic Carnival season concluded with altered parade schedules and routes due to severe weather forecasts, as revelers embraced the festivities undeterred.

The 58-day Carnival season ended on Fat Tuesday, March 4, 2025, with Zulu and Rex parades starting earlier and shortening their routes to avoid forecasted storms.
Despite weather concerns, tens of thousands of costumed revelers filled the streets, celebrating traditions like the Societe de Sainte Anne walking parade and Bourbon Street costume contests.
The Zulu parade omitted its usual dancing groups and some bands, while the Rex parade proceeded without bands but maintained its full float lineup, led by King Edward Howell Crosby.
Several parades in Jefferson Parish and northshore areas were canceled entirely, while others modified schedules to conclude before the arrival of strong winds and potential tornadoes.
Enhanced security measures, including barricades and a significant police presence, were implemented following a recent vehicle attack on Bourbon Street, ensuring a safe celebration.
