March Hotel Stays in Spain Drop 8.9% as Revenues Rise

Shifting Easter dates and adverse weather drive regional disparities in occupancy, with the Canary Islands leading performance and Asturias hit hardest.

Overview

  • Spanish hotels recorded 22.3 million overnight stays in March 2025, an 8.9% decrease compared to March 2024, largely due to Easter's shift to April and poor weather conditions.
  • Average revenue per occupied room rose 4.9% year-on-year to €114.3, continuing a 46-month trend of rising hotel prices.
  • The Canary Islands achieved the highest occupancy rate at 74.9% and the highest revenue per room at €149.4, a 4.1% increase from the previous year.
  • Asturias experienced a severe 24% drop in overnight stays and a 20.2% decline in travelers, with Oviedo seeing a milder 6.21% decrease in hotel nights sold.
  • Regions like Murcia and Córdoba also reported declines in stays, with Córdoba noting a 0.2% drop in overnight stays for the first quarter of 2025.
