• ZDF announced that Maral Bazargani will succeed Norbert König as its lead moderator for athletics broadcasts following his retirement after nearly 40 years
• Bazargani will make her first appearance in the role at ISTAF Berlin on July 27 at 15:45
• She is scheduled to present the German Athletics Championships in early August and four days of live coverage at the World Championships in Tokyo from September 13 to 21
• The 35-year-old former 400m runner competed in Germany’s 4×400m relay at the London 2012 Olympics before launching her journalism career at SWR and joining ZDF in 2017
• ZDF sports director Yorck Polus said her appointment embodies the network’s effort to inject younger and more female talent into its sports coverage
