Overview
- The 40th edition was formally announced at Buenos Aires’ Gaumont cinema for Nov. 6–16, with the Province–INCAA venue dispute unresolved and the day-by-day schedule, theater assignments and ticket pricing still to come.
- Bill Condon’s musical The Kiss of the Spider Woman opens the festival with actor Tonotiuh attending, and Rodrigo García’s Netflix comedy Las locuras is set to close the event.
- The Latinoamericana competition spans the region with titles including Argentina’s La muerte de un comediante and Guatemala’s Cordillera de fuego, judged by Gabriela Tagliavini, María Gowland and Victor Tendler.
- The International Competition features Israel’s Oscar submission The Sea, Pablo Trapero’s & Sons competing for the UK, and Morocco’s Calle Málaga to be presented by Carmen Maura, with jurors Juan Carlos Arciniegas, Paul Zaentz, Juan Baldana, Helher Escribano and Nashla Bogaert.
- A new Series strand debuts alongside a Classics program of restorations, while lifetime Astor de Plata honors go to Miguel Ángel Solá, Juan José Jusid and Marilina Ross, including 4K recoveries of La Raulito and La Raulito en libertad.
