Overview

  • Police were first called to the 11800 block of 239th Street around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday to mediate a neighbour dispute but made no arrests.
  • Hours later, Maple Ridge Fire Department and RCMP responded to reports of two vehicle fires and gunshots at the same home.
  • Inside the burning residence, officers discovered a man and woman in their 60s dead, and the suspect was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted wound in a neighbouring property.
  • IHIT has classified the double homicide as a targeted, isolated murder-suicide and says there are no outstanding suspects or ongoing risk to the community.
  • The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia has launched a review of the RCMP’s earlier intervention to determine whether different actions might have prevented the fatalities.
