Maoist With ₹8 Lakh Bounty Killed in Kanker Encounter, Police Say

Officials cast the operation as part of a sustained Bastar push that seeks surrenders under the state’s rehabilitation policy.

Overview

  • The deceased was identified as Masa, a member of the PLGA’s military company no. 5, according to Bastar Range IG P. Sundarraj.
  • The encounter occurred Tuesday in hilly forest near Gedabeda village under Partapur police station during an operation launched September 7 along the Kanker–Narayanpur border.
  • A joint team of the District Reserve Guard and the Border Security Force carried out the anti-Naxal action, Kanker SP Indira Kalyan Elesela said.
  • Security personnel recovered a .303 rifle, a walkie-talkie set, and other materials from the site, and the team returned to base on Wednesday.
  • Citing difficult terrain and weather, IG Sundarraj praised the forces’ commitment and urged Maoist cadres to abandon violence and enter the rehabilitation program, saying Maoism is nearing its end.
