Overview

  • A small ultralight aircraft nosedived into the A21 motorway in Brescia Province at around noon on July 23 and exploded on impact
  • The plane’s occupants, lawyer Sergio Ravaglia, 75, and his partner Ann Maria De Stefano, 60, were killed instantly
  • Two motorists driving through the ensuing fireball suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at a nearby hospital
  • The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Brescia has opened a manslaughter case and a consultant from the National Agency for Flight Safety is en route to assist investigators
  • Officials warn that determining the crash’s cause could be difficult because ultralight planes are not required to file flight plans under current Italian rules
