Overview
- Tiwary, whose posts and interviews were published Thursday, said he resigned after the TMC’s election loss and then went public with charges that senior minister Arup Biswas blocked his work.
- He said his role as Minister of State for Sports was reduced to ceremony, calling the post a “lollipop” and saying he was left to “have tea and biscuits” instead of being given duties.
- Blaming Biswas for the Kolkata event built around Lionel Messi in late 2025, Tiwary said crowding on the field kept paying fans from seeing the star and that Messi left within minutes, which he said he anticipated and thus skipped the event.
- He alleged Biswas rejected his plan to bring Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake to set up a Centre of Excellence, noting the project was pegged at about Rs 5 crore within a reported Rs 700 crore sports budget and that the chief minister directed him back to Biswas.
- The TMC has not issued a formal rebuttal, while some party figures questioned the timing, and organiser Satadru Dutta had earlier blamed Biswas for the Messi episode and was jailed for over a month afterward.
