Manoj Bajpayee Says Anurag Kashyap Shelved Post-‘Wasseypur’ Film, Calls Him Fiercely Uncompromising

Jugnuma presented by Kashyap opens Sept. 12.

Overview

  • Bajpayee described Kashyap as a conviction-driven filmmaker who has “made too many enemies” and has at times injured himself in anger.
  • He recalled a years-long rift that ended with Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012, saying they are creatively in sync despite different working styles.
  • He confirmed they developed another project after Wasseypur that Kashyap halted because the script was not coming together, and he is not pressing him to revive it.
  • Bajpayee credited Kashyap with backing independent films by presenting Raam Reddy’s Jugnuma and rallying prominent filmmakers to lend their names in support.
  • Kashyap still awaits releases for Paanch and Kennedy, is promoting the two-part action comedy Nishanchi, and recently had Bandar premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
