Mann Presses SIT Probe Into 328 Missing Saroops as Akal Takht Warns Off State Interference

The dispute has become a jurisdictional clash between a police-led investigation and panthic authorities who insist the case be settled within Sikh institutions.

Overview

  • Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the FIR followed demands from Sikh bodies, announced a special investigation team, and said those named will be summoned while urging SGPC cooperation.
  • Amritsar Police registered a case on December 7 against 16 people, including a former SGPC chief secretary, over the 2020 disappearance of 328 sacred copies from the SGPC publication house.
  • The five Singh Sahiban issued a decree warning the AAP government against interfering in internal Sikh matters and cited the Ishar Singh Commission report to oppose police action.
  • Mann accused the SGPC of using the Akal Takht as a shield and of backtracking on its own 2020 resolutions that contemplated criminal action and other penalties.
  • The Akal Takht leadership also ordered curbs on films and AI videos imitating Sikh Gurus or martyrs and prohibited taking the Guru Granth Sahib to non-gurdwara venues for Anand Karaj.
