Manitoba Minister Found in Violation of Conflict of Interest Rules

Ethics commissioner says Ian Bushie failed to disclose a government contract but recommends no penalty.

Ian Bushie, Manitoba's Minister of Municipal and Northern Relations, did not disclose an existing business contract with the government.
The ethics commissioner, Jeffrey Schnoor, determined Bushie's actions contravened the Conflict of Interest Act.
The contract, related to a gas bar and convenience store on the Hollow Water First Nation, was in place before Bushie took office.
The violation occurred when the contract was renewed earlier this year without proper disclosure.
The complaint was initially filed by the Opposition Progressive Conservatives, but Schnoor found the contravention to be inadvertent, and Bushie has accepted responsibility.
