Overview

  • Joint teams of Manipur Police, CAPFs, the Army and Assam Rifles conducted simultaneous searches in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts on the intervening night of June 13–14, 2025.
  • Recovered weapons include 151 self-loading rifles, 65 INSAS rifles, 73 assorted rifles, 12 light machine guns and six AK-series rifles, many of which were looted during the May 2023 ethnic violence.
  • Security forces also seized over 10,600 rounds of ammunition spanning SLR, INSAS, .303, AK and 9 mm calibres alongside grenades, magazines and explosive materials.
  • The recoveries follow Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s February appeal for voluntary arms surrender and mark the largest single-day weapons haul since the unrest began.
  • Manipur Police urged citizens to report any suspicious activity related to illegal weapons to sustain pressure on armed groups and restore normalcy in the state.
