Manipur Security Forces Arrest Six Extortion Suspects, Seize Arms Cache

President’s rule authorities have launched fresh cordon-and-search operations in Imphal districts to clamp down on militant extortion rings

  • Four individuals accused of extorting shopkeepers and residents in the Telipati area of Imphal East were detained on August 8.
  • Authorities also arrested an active Peoples’ Liberation Army cadre from Huikap Makha Leikai and a Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) militant known for using intimidation in criminal settlements.
  • Security forces recovered an INSAS rifle, a .303 rifle, a locally made pistol, two hand grenades, two explosive packets, detonators and over 260 rounds of ammunition in Kakching and Langol Usoi Makhong.
  • These operations are part of President’s rule measures deploying joint army, paramilitary, police cordon-and-search sweeps across Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching districts.
  • Cordon-and-search missions continue as authorities aim to dismantle militant-led extortion networks and disrupt their funding channels.
