Manipur Security Forces Arrest 25 Extremist Militants in Weekend Raids

Presidential Rule forces have widened cordon-and-search operations following a June 30 ambush to dismantle cross-border trained extremist networks

The other arrests include three active cadres of KCP (PWG) from different parts of Imphal West on Thursday, and two members of the proscribed KCP (Taibanganba) from Phumlou Mamang Leikai in Imphal West and Keibi Khullen village in Imphal East district on Friday.

Overview

  • Security personnel detained 25 militants over July 12–13 in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts targeting cadres from PREPAK, SOREPA, KCP factions, KYKL, APUNBA and the PLA.
  • Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol, magazine, six rounds of ammunition, mobile phones with SIM cards and seized additional arms in multiple operations.
  • One arrested PREPAK member, 42-year-old Chingakham Sanjoy Singh Eremba, had completed 45 days of basic military training in Myanmar before returning to Manipur.
  • Joint teams from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP and Manipur Police continue area domination with checkpoints and cordon-and-search missions in vulnerable fringe zones.
  • Police cautioned residents against spreading fake videos or rumors and appealed for the voluntary return of looted weapons under warning of legal action.
