Overview

  • Joint operations by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and other security units in five districts led to the detention of 15 active insurgent militants between July 29 and August 4.
  • Authorities seized 69 weapons including looted service firearms and country-made arms, 16 improvised explosive devices, grenades, ammunition, radio sets and other war-like stores.
  • The arrested militants were linked to banned outfits UNLF, KYKL, KCP and PREPAK and accused of extortion, kidnapping and firing incidents in valley and hill regions.
  • The Manipur government approved establishment of a new police station in Imphal and creation of 12 Sub Divisional Police Officer posts across nine districts to strengthen enforcement.
  • Parliament granted a six-month extension of President’s rule in Manipur, ensuring unified command for ongoing counter-insurgency and law-and-order operations.
