Manipur Raids Net Six Near Border, More Held Over Extortion and Cyber-Fraud Links

Police say intelligence-led operations under President's rule target the funding pipelines of banned insurgent groups.

  • Officials reported six arrests in Tengnoupal, including four picked up near Border Pillar 73 by the Indo–Myanmar frontier for alleged extortion and youth recruitment.
  • The four detainees near the border were linked to KCP-MFL, UNLF-K and PLA, according to names and affiliations released by authorities.
  • Two KCP-Apunba cadres, identified as Angom Silky Devi and Oinam Niranjit Singh alias Alex, were arrested in Imphal West on allegations of extortion and recruitment.
  • Earlier operations detained five suspects for alleged extortion across Imphal East, Kakching and Bishnupur, including two PREPAK women carrying 15 demand letters, two PREPAK (Pro) members and a UPPK functionary.
  • Police also arrested a PREPAK cadre and a KCP (PWG) member for alleged extortion and separately caught two suspects accused of running mule bank accounts to move cyber-fraud proceeds, with further investigation underway.
