Overview

  • Senior journalists from the All Manipur Working Journalists Union and Editors Guild Manipur held a sit-in at Keisampat Leimajam Leikai in Imphal on July 7.
  • They are demanding that the state government respond to a two-member inquiry committee’s report into the May 20 Gwaltabi checkpoint incident.
  • The committee was formed in late May after security personnel allegedly removed the word “Manipur” from a state transport bus en route to the Shirui Lily festival.
  • Media leaders say the committee submitted its findings to the governor more than 40 days ago but have received no official action from the administration.
  • The demonstration highlights rising concerns over press freedom and administrative transparency under President’s Rule in Manipur.
