Manipur Government Reverses Decision to Reopen Schools After Violence

Schools and colleges in Imphal Valley and Jiribam will remain closed until November 26 due to safety concerns following recent unrest.

The Manipur government initially announced the reopening of schools and colleges on November 25 but revoked the order late Sunday night.
Educational institutions in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, and Jiribam have been closed since November 17 due to protests and curfews.
The unrest follows the discovery of six civilian bodies and the deaths of ten armed militants in an encounter with security forces on November 11.
Prohibitory orders remain in place, though curfews have been relaxed from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. in affected districts to allow residents to purchase essentials.
Mobile internet services have been suspended in nine districts until November 25 to curb misinformation and maintain public order.
