Manipur Forms State and District Panels for IDP Rehabilitation as 31-Day Sit-In Begins

  • The Manipur government announced with immediate effect state- and district-level committees to drive rehabilitation of internally displaced persons, according to a DIPR release.
  • The state panel is chaired by the Chief Secretary with commissioners of Finance, Home, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj as members and the special or additional secretary (Home) as convenor.
  • District committees are led by the deputy commissioners with DRDA project directors, the additional deputy commissioner as convenor, the Zilla Parishad chief executive officer and concerned sub-divisional officers supporting implementation.
  • The bodies are tasked to monitor and coordinate resettlement efforts, address bottlenecks, and speed delivery of assistance to families in relief camps.
  • Displaced families backed by COCOMI began a 31-day relay sit-in at Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West, submitted a memorandum to the Governor and Chief Secretary, and warned of escalation if resettlement does not advance this month.
