Manipur Forces Seize 86 Weapons, Arrest 22 in Valley Crackdown

It builds on ongoing operations under President’s Rule to disrupt extremist extortion networks through targeted raids on weapons caches.

Overview

  • Joint teams from Manipur Police, the Army, Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles conducted intelligence-driven sweeps across Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts.
  • Security forces recovered 86 firearms, including AK-series rifles, INSAS rifles, self-loading rifles and pistols, along with nine grenades, four improvised explosive devices and a two-inch mortar.
  • The operation yielded 974 rounds of ammunition, 41 assorted magazines and six wireless handsets seized from concealed locations.
  • Authorities detained 22 individuals, among them 16 militants linked to banned extremist outfits accused of extortion and recruitment in the region.
  • Manipur Police urged residents to report suspicious activity to the Central Control Room and warned against spreading rumours or fake videos as part of public cooperation efforts.
