Manipur Cracks Down After Assam Rifles Ambush With Arrests of Prime Accused, Militants and Arms Dealer

Investigators pursue remaining suspects following recoveries of rifles and IED components.

Overview

  • Police arrested Khomdram Ojit Singh, alias Keilal, an alleged PLA cadre accused of directly participating in the September 19 attack on a 33 Assam Rifles convoy at Nambol Sabal Leikai.
  • Based on his inputs, security teams recovered rifles, including INSAS, along with magazines believed to have been used in the ambush.
  • Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five injured in the convoy attack, which authorities say is driving intensified operations.
  • Separate raids detained a PREPAK member accused of a ₹5,000 extortion in Kakching and a PLA cadre in the Tronglaoba area, where residents briefly blocked a road in protest.
  • An alleged 48-year-old arms dealer was held in Imphal West with a 9 mm pistol, and security forces seized TNT, a detonator and wiring for IEDs in Kaibung, Kakching district.
