Manipur Crackdown Widens With Fresh Arrests and Rs 6-Crore Drug Haul After Insurgent Roundup
Investigators are probing command responsibility for the convoy ambush, focusing on militant recruitment and narcotics financing.
Overview
- In the past 24 hours, security forces arrested four militants from the KCP and PLA/RPF in Bishnupur and Imphal West for roles in recruitment, extortion and intimidation, including surveillance of troop movements.
- Two drug peddlers were held in Imphal East with two kilograms of methamphetamine valued at over Rs 6 crore and Rs 38 lakh in cash, and two alleged extortionists were detained on NH-2.
- Earlier coordinated raids netted 15 PLA cadres, including two named suspects in the September 19 Nambol convoy ambush, while the 36 Assam Rifles apprehended six UKNA members in Songkot, one reportedly aged 14.
- Recent seizures included an AK-47, two 9 mm pistols, an M79 grenade launcher, bulletproof jackets, Baofeng radios, assorted ammunition and poppy seeds linked to illicit cultivation.
- Authorities note the PLA has not claimed the Nambol attack and assessments indicate its central leadership may not have authorised it, as probes also examine alleged narcotics-backed activities by newer militias such as the CKMA.
