Overview
- On Saturday Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and received a pledge of all possible assistance from the Centre to help restore peace and normal life in Manipur.
- Singh told the prime minister that passenger buses between Imphal, Dimapur and Guwahati have resumed and goods trucks are moving again on National Highways 37 and 2, signaling an early return of supply chains.
- Earlier this week Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured full central support, and Singh held separate talks with ministers Nitin Gadkari and Mansukh Mandaviya who said they will visit Manipur soon.
- The chief minister formally asked the Centre to upgrade select state highways to national highways and to elevate the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, to All India Institute of Medical Sciences status to boost access and capacity for health care.
- If the Centre approves the requests and ministers follow through with visits, residents can expect faster road repairs, steadier goods movement and expanded hospital services that would directly improve access to medicines, referrals and economic activity.
