Manipur Approves New Secretariat Police Station and 12 SDPO Posts

Staffing draws exclusively on existing DSP ranks with inspector positions repurposed to avoid additional expenditure.

Overview

  • The government sanctioned a Secretariat Police Station at Mantripukhri to secure the relocated civil secretariat, police headquarters and nearby institutions such as the high court, IIIT and forest office complex.
  • Twelve new SDPO posts were created to strengthen supervision in both established districts and newly formed border areas including Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Pherzawl and Noney.
  • A dedicated SDPO for the New Capital Complex under Imphal East District will oversee operations at the new station and the existing Heingang police station.
  • All positions will be filled by reallocating existing DSP ranks and converting inspector roles, ensuring the restructuring remains cost-neutral.
  • Internal reassignments are now underway as the police department moves to operationalize the new posts and enhance command, investigative oversight and border security.
