Manhunt Underway for Son of Nashville Police Chief Accused in Shooting of Two Officers

Suspect John C. Drake Jr. wanted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder; officers were investigating a stolen vehicle when he fired shots.

  • Two La Vergne city police officers in Tennessee were shot while investigating a stolen vehicle by suspect John C. Drake Jr., the estranged son of the Metro Nashville Police Department Chief.
  • John C. Drake Jr., a 38-year-old convicted felon, is now wanted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and is considered 'armed and very dangerous'.
  • The officers sustained injuries to the groin, forearm, and rear left shoulder, and were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. One officer was released, while the other remains in stable condition.
  • A statewide alert has been issued for the apprehension of Drake Jr, with about a dozen law enforcement agencies involved in the manhunt.
  • In the wake of the shooting, the La Vergne police issued a shelter-in-place order for city residents, which was lifted once the immediate threat to public safety was deemed over.
