Manhattan Subway Service Fully Restored Following Collision
Investigation continues into derailment that injured 26 and disrupted service for over 60 hours.
- Subway service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines in Manhattan was fully restored on Sunday, more than 60 hours after a collision between two trains left 26 people injured.
- The service disruption began around 3 p.m. on Thursday when a train carrying about 300 passengers collided with an out-of-service train near 96th Street on the Upper West Side and both trains derailed.
- Human error appears to have caused the collision, according to three transit officials with knowledge of the investigation.
- The National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the cause of the derailment remains ongoing.
- One of the trains involved in the crash was out of service at the time after the emergency brakes were pulled by alleged vandals.
