Manhattan Grand Jury Indicts Donald Ziebenhood in Alleged Attacks on Husband

Any decision on a homicide charge awaits the medical examiner’s determination of cause of death.

Overview

  • The indictment outlines three 2025 incidents involving Jacob Zieben: a Feb. 25 assault in the Harlem apartment, a June 14 knife threat in violation of an order of protection, and a July 31 assault reported to family hours before his death was discovered.
  • Charges include two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree assault, two counts of aggravated criminal contempt, eight counts of first-degree criminal contempt, and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
  • Prosecutors say prior protection orders issued in November 2024 and reaffirmed after later incidents were central to the alleged contempt and burglary offenses.
  • Ziebenhood called 911 around 4 a.m. on Aug. 1, and police found Jacob Zieben slumped over in the bathroom with a head wound and stab wounds to the back of his leg; the cause of death remains pending.
  • Ziebenhood, 40, was arrested at the scene, pleaded not guilty, is being held without bail, and is scheduled to return to court on January 7, 2026.
