Overview

• Madhavi, 44, fell after her scooter struck a pothole near the Gold Finch City grounds on the Udupi–Mangaluru carriageway around 8:30 am.
• A fish-laden lorry driven by Mohammed Farooq ran over her, and she died at the scene.
• Farooq was arrested, later released on bail, and charged under BNS sections 106 and 281 along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
• Mangaluru City Traffic Police registered a case that also names NHAI officials for failure to maintain the highway.
• Potholes at the site were patched soon after, while activists renewed calls for lasting repairs and compensation for victims’ families.
