Overview

• Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tabled the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha to excise government-control provisions and restore NADA’s operational and institutional independence under the WADA Code.
• The amended act retains the National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports but removes its authority over the NADA appeals panel, a step aimed at averting potential WADA suspension and laboratory derecognition.
• The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 was introduced alongside the anti-doping amendments to enforce performance-based funding, require five-year strategic roadmaps and strengthen accountability in national sports federations.
• Under the governance bill, every national federation must establish Athletes’ Committees and reserve at least two executive-body seats for sportspersons of outstanding merit to ensure athlete representation.
• Debates have begun in the Lok Sabha with opposition parties protesting Bihar’s electoral roll revision, and both bills have been referred to committees for further discussion on sports compliance and governance reforms.
