Adongo's comparison was part of a wider criticism of Bawumia's handling of Ghana's economy, which is currently facing its worst crisis in a generation due to spiraling public debt and rampant inflation.

Despite the apology, Adongo continues to criticize Bawumia, accusing him of 'roaming' around the International Monetary Fund (IMF) 'with a cup in hand'. Ghana's government sought help from the IMF last year, securing a three-year, $3 billion programme.
Bawumia, who heads the government's economic management team, has been selected as the ruling party candidate for the 2024 elections.
