Manchester Synagogue Attacker Died From Multiple Police Gunshots, Inquest Hears

The coroner opened and adjourned the case after confirming identification and hearing officers fired several rounds as he advanced with a knife and a fake suicide belt.

Overview

  • Jihad Al‑Shamie, 35, was identified by fingerprints and supporting evidence following the October 2 attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsall.
  • Earlier inquests recorded that worshipper Melvin Cravitz died from multiple stab wounds and Adrian Daulby died from a single gunshot to the chest fired by an armed officer.
  • Police evidence said Daulby had been holding the main synagogue doors shut when he was fatally struck by a bullet that penetrated the entrance.
  • Greater Manchester Police said three people who were seriously injured have been discharged from hospital and the force does not anticipate further loss of life.
  • A pre‑inquest review for the victims' cases is scheduled for February 18, and investigators say the attacker may have been influenced by extreme Islamist ideology.
