- Judge Tom Gilbart sentenced Mourad Malki, also known as Sid Ali Djelid, to life imprisonment with a 16‑year minimum term and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
- The 39-year-old targeted one woman and two men between February and July 2024 near Canal Street, raping them before stealing phones, bank cards and other valuables.
- Jurors at Manchester Crown Court convicted him in July of five counts of rape plus theft and fraud, and he had already admitted additional theft offences.
- Greater Manchester Police released bodycam footage of his arrest showing an officer telling him he was under arrest for rape as he responded, “Rape?” and shook his head.
- Detectives linked the offences using CCTV, victims’ phone tracking to Cheetham Hill and transaction records, and they urged anyone with information to contact Operation Baycliff.
